Egypt Family Justice Project
November 2005-September 2011
The USAID-funded Family Justice Project assisted the Government of Egypt in the implementation of Law No. 10/2004, pertaining to the family court system. This support was designed to strengthen equal access to justice, to enhance family stability, and to protect the rights of children. Project interventions included nationwide training for family court officials and judges on mediation, physical upgrades to facilities, awareness-raising through culturally-appropriate social mobilization methods, and NGO grant support. This support has enhanced the ability of the mediation offices and NGOs to resolve family disputes and provide needed assistance to families in dispute. This USAID-funded project has been building capacity in Egyptian family courts nationwide with special focus on the regions of Port Said, Giza and Minya since 2005.
