Strengthening Justice Sector Institutions
MSD collaborates with governments and civil society to build and strengthen the capacity of justice sector institutions – including the courts, judicial agents, and police – to establish and enforce the rule of law and protect human rights.
With more than twenty years experience in rule of law programming, MSD works directly with USAID to increase access to justice and improve the administration of justice in Latin America, Africa, the Middle East, and Asia.
The leading provider of technical assistance for criminal code reform, MSD is experienced in the full procedural and programmatic spectrum, including legislative drafting, advocacy, and forensics. MSD also leads in justice sector strengthening programs for specialty courts, including juvenile courts, labor courts, and family courts.
Improving Justice Sector Responses
MSD works to strengthen and improve justice sector response to women, families, the disabled, LGBT, and other vulnerable populations, including the displaced, and indigenous groups.
Engaging Civil Society
MSD adheres to a holistic change paradigm model that incorporates relevant community actors to ensure long-term benefits. In this model, civil society engages with the justice sector to confront issues of human rights and improve the rule of law. MSD helps create an enabling environment for counterparts and stakeholders to lead demand-driven reforms in the justice sector.
